The RKP truck has become the norm in downhill skateboarding mainly because of its stability at higher speeds. Many RKP truck companies actually 3D print their trucks to give them the most precise feeling you can get. A Traditional Kingpin Truck or TKP would have the bushing on the inside of the trucks not the outside like the RKP.

There are advantages, and disadvantages to each shape. A top mount has the most amount of grip, but it is also the hardest one to slide and the least stable. The drop through is very stable but not agile, and somewhat outdated. A drop deck can come in many different variations, and is usually super stable. The more drop the board has the less grip it will have.

Downhill wheels come in many different sizes, shapes, and hardnesses. These two examples are a more generic wheel that is common to each of a downhill wheel, and a slide wheel. Downhill wheels come with a sharp lip for more grip, while slide wheels come with a round lip for a more predictable slide and less grip.

Bushings and washers have a huge affect on the performance of the trucks. Depending on which washers and bushing shapes you use, the set up can either be extremely agile and turn a lot or extremely stable and stiff, not turning much.

Technique

There are multiple different types of tucks that have been popular over the last sixty years. The orginal tuck was invented by John "Hut" Hutson, and was inspired by a downhill ski tuck with the legs apart bent forward. The modern tuck is called the American tuck which is the tuck shown in this video. You must lower your chest to your front knee and keep a flat back with your back knee tucked against the front one.

Technique

Turning is all about maintaining the proper form, and being consistent throughout the turn. Get nice and low grab rail and drag your puck on the ground for more balance. Not everyone grabs rail, but a lot of people find they get more grip from it. Besides your form, hitting the apex is the most important part. By going into the turn wide, coming in tight to the corner, and exiting the corner wide you are utilizing the straightest and fastest line.

Technique

There are three ways to brake: foot braking,
air braking, or drifting. Each has its advantages, but the most efficient way of stopping is the drift. There are two types of drifting: pre drifting, or a pendy slide. A pre drift allows you to brake for a corner while a pendy allows you to slow down much more, or come to a complete stop. A skateboard with softer wheels has greater stopping power than a bike because of the greater surface area of the wheels.
